I use the following structure in lessons to begin with and then tailor lessons to suit the students abilities and needs.

Keep it simple: Use simple sentence structures and vocabulary to ensure the student fully understands and to avoid confusion.
Make it interactive: Give students homework to practice in public if possible and other interactive activities to help students practice and build confidence.
Plan effectively: I create structured lesson plans to avoid common mistakes like over-decorating or repeating the same activities.
Balance lesson: Mixture of specifics for the student and general conversational skills, to limit time spent on any single activity.
