Barney Gee

In my years as a TA in a Primary School I always enjoyed helping children who struggled with mathematics or rather hated it as they would get frustrated as they couldn’t keep up with rest of the class. My method has been simple. I would talk to them about their favourite things and use it in calculations. For example -for a girl obsessed with her pencil bag, I would use that as the parameter. as her focus grows stronger she tries harder to solve the maths problem. It has always been a pleasant experience when the children start feeling confident with the subject.
