My lessons are structured, focused, and tailored to each student. I usually work in one-to-one sessions online, beginning with a short check-in to understand the student’s goals, level, and current challenges, then building each lesson around clear objectives.
For music theory, I focus on making concepts practical and musical rather than abstract. Harmony, counterpoint, rhythm, form, and analysis are always connected to real repertoire and listening examples, so students understand not only the rules but why they exist and how composers actually use them. I adapt the pace depending on whether a student needs a solid foundation or more advanced refinement.
For composition, lessons are practice-based. We work directly with the student’s own material, sketches, or works-in-progress. I help students develop ideas, structure pieces, solve technical problems, and clarify their musical voice. Feedback is direct, constructive, and specific, with an emphasis on decision-making and artistic intention rather than imitation or style-copying.
I have several years of experience teaching at university level, including one year at the German University in Cairo and three years at the American University in Cairo. I have worked with beginners, advanced students, and adult learners from different cultural and musical backgrounds.
My aim is to create lessons that are rigorous but encouraging, intellectually clear, and creatively challenging, giving students the tools to think independently and progress with confidence.
