Through my experience tutoring students and working at Kumon, I have developed strong communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills that allow me to build positive relationships with learners of different ages and abilities.
One thing I have noticed is that most students do not learn well by simply reading from a PowerPoint or listening to someone talk for an hour. I believe lessons should be interactive, engaging, and adapted to each student. Creating a comfortable environment where students feel able to ask questions, make mistakes, and challenge themselves is important because confidence often has a huge impact on progress.
At the same time, I understand the importance of structure. While interactive learning is valuable, students also need clear explanations, effective note taking techniques, and regular practice to strengthen their understanding. I encourage active participation throughout lessons while ensuring students leave with useful notes and resources they can revisit independently.
I also recognise that every student learns differently. Some students are visual learners, while others prefer discussion-based learning, and some learn best through practice questions and repetition. My approach is to identify what works best for each unique student and adapt my teaching style accordingly. By combining encouragement, patience, structure, and flexibility, I aim to create lessons that are both enjoyable and productive. Having worked with students at different levels and ages, I understand that progress looks different for everyone and I focus on helping each student improve at a pace that works for them while still achieving the results they need
