I have been a teacher of English since 2004. I have worked in mainstream secondary schools and in the specialist educational sector. I enjoy working with young people and also tutor for Kip McGrath. I am approachable and have an informal attitude to my students. I understand the pressures and stresses that many young people feel around school and the push for qualifications but I like to think that I provide a supportive and calm approach to learning and I adjust my teaching according to the needs, barriers and challenges of each student.
I have a good track record of success with my students. I have an MA in English Lit/Lang and have an understanding of a wide range of texts and I am a former journalist/editor. I currently mark GCSE for Pearson Edexcel, so this gives me. good understanding of the requirements of the GCSE English course both Language and Literature.
