Areej Saleem

I hold a Bachelor of Science (BSc) with Honours in Biomedical Sciences and have over five years of tutoring experience through the National Tutoring Programme, specialising in English, Maths, and Science across primary, secondary, SEN, and mainstream settings. Prior to this, I gained three years of experience as a teaching assistant, which provided me with a strong understanding of diverse educational needs and effective classroom support strategies.
In addition to my work in school environments, I have provided home schooling for children unable to attend mainstream education due to medical, emotional, or behavioural challenges. This one-on-one setting allowed me to build strong, trusting relationships and deliver personalised learning plans that helped each child gain confidence and reach their full academic potential.

Tutoring Style

I believe that students excel most when learning is enjoyable. I make lessons fun and interactive by incorporating hands-on activities, real-life examples, and engaging discussions. I understand that active involvement helps students absorb and retain concepts more effectively. By creating a positive and dynamic learning environment, I foster confidence and encourage curiosity.
While engaging lessons are important, I emphasise the value of setting clear targets and applying strategies that help students reach their goals. I advocate a structured approach to tutoring, which provides consistency, focus, and measurable progress. This structure helps identify learning gaps, build confidence, and support students in achieving their full potential.

Other Specialist Areas

Over six years in education, I have supported and taught children with a wide range of needs, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and have gained experience working in specialist provisions for children on the autism spectrum, supporting students with diverse needs, such as non-verbal communication, sensory processing difficulties, and varying cognitive and emotional development levels. This experience enhanced my patience, creativity, and adaptability, allowing me to tailor lessons to individual learning styles, interests, and paces.
