I like to get to know my students. Their interests and hobbies. That way I can make lessons more real to them. I love showing them where maths has direct application in their lives.

Each lesson begins with an overview of what was covered previously. This primes the student for the information to come.

Next, we begin with an introduction to the problem. A problem where maths is needed to solve. Usually this is a practical problem, one that they may encounter in their lives. In some cases it is purely a maths problem but that is only at the higher levels.

We then go into an explanation of what the math we need is, how it connects to previous maths learned and how we can apply it to our current problem.

Several examples are shown. The first one or two is done by me with the student observing how I complete it and how I think it through. Then we complete examples together. This let's me guide them through the thought process. Finally, I have the student complete independent exercises.

Before we finish, we answer the problem at the outset. In some cases, we don't get to that point yet and if so we step back and try something different. Perhaps a video is shown or a different type of problem.

I do not assign homework. I do help with any homework you may have, but I don't think any more is needed.

I'm also open to suggestions. If you learn better in a particular way, I'm willing to change my approach. It's all about what the student needs most!
