After seven years of teaching English to all age groups and levels, I am beyond confident in my abilities to structure and present a lesson that will make the student learn, retain knowledge and create a genuine love of learning.
My lessons are precise and direct from the very beginning. I have a talent for filling any gaps in learning through my experience working with SEND students. These are easily identified through baseline tests, and sometimes, just a quick chat!
You can expect a lesson with fun starters, engaging resources, carefully modelled and explained tutorials, and most importantly of all; a strong emphasis on the the learner as an individual.
Anyone with a grounding in pedagogy will tell you that the best way for a student to learn is to build on previous knowledge. This builds confidence in learners that have previously found education challenging and uninspiring.
For example, having worked previously with young offenders, I found that the ability and confidence levels of many of these students was very low. Through talking about and utilising their past experiences with reading, writing, culture and the arts (however minimal), this provided an immediate base to build a platform for them to learn and grow.
This is an approach I take with every student, no matter how profound or urgent their needs may be. This also includes the needs of high-attaining students that are hungry for knowledge and challenge, but lack the inspiration to take their learning career to a new plateau. I have the experience, knowhow, and ability to build on critical thinking skills, provide alternative explanations, and give a wealth of reference points that will illuminate and solidify the most ardent of learners.
