Anna O’Reilly

I am currently studying for an MSc in Mechanical Engineering with Management at Queen’s University Belfast, having previously completed a 2:1 BEng in Engineering Technology. I also achieved an A in A-Level Mathematics, alongside A-Levels in Physics and Chemistry, and have previous experience providing one-to-one GCSE tuition in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

My lessons are relaxed, supportive and tailored to the individual student. I know that students can struggle with the same topic for completely different reasons, so I do not believe in using one teaching method for everyone. I begin by identifying what the student already understands, where they are getting stuck and what they would like to improve, then structure our lessons around those areas.

For Maths and Science subjects, I focus on helping students understand why a method works rather than simply memorising steps. I break difficult concepts into manageable sections, work through examples together and then encourage the student to tackle questions more independently as their confidence develops. I can also incorporate exam-style questions and past-paper practice to help students become more comfortable applying their knowledge under exam conditions.

Having studied STEM subjects through A-Level, undergraduate and postgraduate level, I have extensive experience working with mathematical and scientific concepts. Just as importantly, my previous tutoring experience has taught me how to explain them clearly and adapt my communication to different levels of understanding.

My aim is for students to leave lessons not only knowing more, but feeling more confident in their own ability to solve problems independently.
