I lecture at college in advanced engineering delivering materials science, mechanical engineering and A level maths to foundation degree students. In many cases, students don't have A level maths and I support students to become proficient in pure and applied maths.

I have a PhD in materials science and worked in the higher education sector for 20 years. During this time, I have used applied maths to present data in research projects and scientific journal publications.

My teaching utilises PowerPoint to introduce the subject, followed by step-by-step approaches to solve example problems. Exercises are set for students to attempt and I then go through the problems with the students. My aim is to create relaxed sessions so that I facilitate the learning process in a supportive environment.

In the classes that I teach for the foundation degree, I have found that providing a revision booklet and worksheet covering all the topics covered in my lessons has produced fantastic results. Students have given feedback that these really help to cement their knowledge and give them confidence going into exams.

I can help students working towards their A level maths, or anyone studying materials science who might need some extra support and confidence in their studies. Anyone interested in my tuition can have their first meet for free, where we can discuss topic areas where support is needed. From this information I will produce a plan, which will be agreed between tutor and student before sessions commence.
