Benefit from the expertise of a tutor who has spent years honing his German language skills and working in the languages industry: I studied German at the University of Oxford (graduating with first-class honours), spent two years living in Germany and since 2008 have been working as a translator, with numerous books and other published translations to my name. Since 2024, I have added tutoring as an additional service so that I can share that expertise with others.

As a native English speaker who has had to learn German myself, I understand the challenges it involves – and I know plenty of tips and tricks to help overcome those challenges.

My teaching style focuses on giving you a systematic understanding of how German works. My courses begin with an initial lesson on pronunciation (and why German pronunciation is actually more logical than English!). Subsequent lessons will involve a combination of speaking, listening, reading, writing and vocabulary-building exercises, plus discussion of some of the cultural differences between the UK and German-speaking countries so that you can better understand the wider context in which German is spoken.

Lessons can be delivered online or in-person in Southampton.
