Andrea Gillies

I am an experienced English lead and teacher with a proven track record who believes in a more holistic/pastoral and innovative approach to teaching. I can ensure that progress at all levels for all learners and in all areas is made, and that the required curriculum framework is covered.

My lessons are well-managed and engaging and incorporate a variety of strategies depending on the class. I have taught English as my specialist subject; however, over the last seven years (a year per subject) I have also taught PSHCE, citizenship, science and history, and when I first qualified as a teacher I taught across all subjects.

As a lead teacher, I have created online centralised classrooms for their use. Each classroom contains lesson resources, medium term plans, progression frameworks, subject policies and some fun links, too! I will provide you with feedback that helps your learner’s progression and innovate lessons to include new learning and ideas.

Over my career, I have been able to form strong relationships with students and families, and even though relationships can be challenging, I am a calm, professional and patient person. I have also recently been a Phase Leader which means that I am the first point of contact for parents/carers of children across key stages, and also that I am more heavily invested in their pastoral welfare.

I favour a pastoral approach for learners who achieve more that way, but am also able to create lessons that are more 'mainstream' as I am a grammar specialist.
