My lessons are online, one-to-one and paced to suit each student. I start by finding out where they’re struggling, whether that’s a particular topic, exam technique or confidence, so that every minute of the lesson is useful. I then break each topic into small steps and work through examples together until it clicks. I explain why a method works, not just the steps, so students can apply it to new questions and in exams. I keep lessons friendly and relaxed, and I’m patient, so no question is too small to ask.
After each lesson I set homework to practise what we covered, and we go through it together at the start of the next session. This helps students remember what they’ve learned, shows us what to focus on next, and means progress continues between lessons. I adapt the pace and content to each student’s goals, whether that’s catching up, building confidence or aiming for a higher grade.
I achieved grade 7s in GCSE Maths, English Language and English Literature, and I use maths daily in my Accounting and Finance degree at the University of Brighton, where I achieved First Class in my first year. I haven’t tutored professionally yet, but I’m well prepared, organised and reliable, and I’m keen to learn what works best for each student. I’ll ask for feedback regularly and adjust my approach, so that every lesson helps students feel more confident and ready for their exams. I also care about confidentiality and communicate in a clear, professional way with students and parents, which I developed through my volunteering.
