My method of teaching is based around what the child’s interests and needs are. When a child is interested in something, e.g cars, trains, butterflies or flowers, learning becomes fun for them and once something is fun for a child, they are more than happy to engage.

This can also be achieved through interests in books, sports, music or animals. I find that getting to know a child and forming a bond really adds to how a tutor can overall support their learning development in all aspects of their educational experience.

The use of phonics books/cards and some Makaton signs words and phrases if need be, I found this is fun for all children which they love using.

I also carry out a few mini observations and homework task for children to complete which will give me more of an idea of their strengths and what areas of development they might need more support in to further grow in their learning.

I also implement a magic box, children will be able to write down how they feel the session went/what they like or would like to do and try my best to add it into our sessions so learning continues to hold their focus but mostly so that they feel heard, children must always believe that the tutors listens to what they need and show this through actions.

Lastly I use words of affirmations and praises so children feel confident and proud of each milestone they reach.
