Amelia Hickman

With a BSc in Psychology, from The University of Manchester, I have a strong enthusiasm for understanding and sharing knowledge about human behaviour. I am eager to support students in exploring the fascinating world of psychology – from cognitive processes to social behaviour.

Throughout my academic journey, I have developed a solid foundation in core areas such as cognitive psychology, developmental psychology and research methods. These modules not only deepened my understanding of psychological theory and practice but also sparked my passion for helping others engage with the subject in meaningful ways. My final-year research project further strengthened my analytical thinking and communication skills, both of which are essential for effective tutoring.

My experience in psychology has been strengthened through my numerous roles working as a Research Assistant throughout my degree. I have collaborated with teams on research projects working in both developmental psychology, where I contributed to developing learning interventions for children with Down Syndrome, and gerontology, where I assisted in experimentally investigating the psychosocial stressors associated with ageing in Vancouver.

In addition to my academic background, I have practical experience tutoring young people through small group sessions and adapted content to suit individual learning needs, helping students build confidence and improve academic outcomes. I have worked with children with a range of abilities and am able to effectively adapt my communication methods in light of this.

I am excited at the prospect of making psychology accessible and engaging for others! I am confident in my ability to build rapport with learners, simplify complex topics, and create a supportive virtual learning environment.
