Taking a child led approach, I try to cultivate a sense of agency and a love of learning, hoping to galvanise the children to take a proactive approach to their own self-education and personal development. It is my belief that an education takes a life-time to develop and that process should not be limited to the confides of a school system.

In all the subjects I teach, human subjectivity and appreciation sit at the heart of them, and it’s this that I want to instil in my students. English will mainly focus on creative writing tasks to ensure the child is aware of adjectives, similes, metaphors and any other linguistic devices. On top of this there will be lots of poetry / story analysis to engage and inflame the imagination.

Philosophy will focus on history of philosophy, tracing its development from the pre-socratics through to the Greeks and then the Germans. With this subject I always try to speak to the child (or individual I am teaching) on their level and then to break it down into component parts so it’s more easily digestible. I will also challenge them and ask tough questions to get the student to grapple with the subject first hand.

Art will again be taught in a very similar manner - tracing the history and development of art through the ages and then culminating in analysis and developing aesthetic appreciation. If possible I will also encourage outings and trips to various art shows / galleries / museums if I feel it to be beneficial to the students development and understanding.
