When planning a lesson for a student there are several important aspects.
Firstly, I assess the students current level of understanding and any specific areas that they find challenging . I normally do this my going through a past paper.
After I find out what the student finds difficult, I tailor my lesson to the students learning style , for example If they are a visual learner, I will use diagram and illustrations to help them understand concepts. I also ensure that the lesson has a clear learning objective, it is well structured, it is interactive to keep the student engaged and at the end of the lesson I would leave room for feed back, I would go through what the student learnt and what we can improve in the future.
In biology one topic that younger students find challenging and struggle to grasp is the concept of cells, organelles and their functions.
In this case, I would use interactive cells models, create fun games and activities or even using online resources such as stimulations, animations, quizzes, and whiteboards as these can be very useful and fun for students.
These methods also help me as a tutor understand which teaching method best works for that particular student because every student is different and so is their learning style.
