I have over 25 years teaching experience, the majority of this working with children with additional learning needs. As a result I have developed an approach to teaching literacy that is fun and engaging and meets each learner where they are. I develop not only a child's literacy skills, but also their self-belief and their own understanding of how their unique brain works and what supports them to learn. I have an in depth understanding of dyslexia, having worked at local authority level to develop approaches to identification and support for dyslexia across local schools.
When I begin working with your child, I will carry out a range of assessments (presented in a fun way) to determine the appropriate starting point and the next steps in learning.
My online lessons are interactive, and make use of a mixture of resources available in this format, including visuals, video, music and online quizes. Task are short and well-paced, and will be tailored to tap into your child's interests and learning style. I also understand the importance of developing a trusting relationship with your child, and alway endeavour to make them feel comfortable in our sessions.
I share my planning structure with parents and children so that everyone know clearly what we are learning, and how we are progressing. I also welcome feedback and questions from parents and children to ensure that things are always going in the right direction for their child. I am also happy to share my observations with schools and to work with them in ensuring a consistant approach to learning for your child.
