For our first lesson we will be making a plan of certain areas of maths to cover. A lot of students struggle in later topics such as geometry but that can be discussed with the student and how they want to approach each topic. During our lesson we will also go through any school topics the student may be struggling with. My lesson is entirely focused on what the student needs help with and they should not be afraid to ask questions. The more questions asked, the better the flow of the lesson! I’ll incorporate active recall quizzes at the start of every lesson based on what topic was learnt in the previous lesson just as a learning check to make sure the student has understood. I’ve been tutoring for 2 years as of right now. For my actual teaching method I explain the concept of the topic, go through 2-3 examples then let the student attempt a question themselves, if they still don’t get it I re explain and go through more examples until they do. I want my teaching environment to be chill and engaging for the student, not to stress them out. All my lessons are focused on the student as it is their learning and their effort going into wanting to learn and become better. My main goal is to build confidence in maths as the more confidence there is, the less room for error and it makes you just feel better about your maths skills.
