Hello! I'm Abigail, nice to meet you :)
I am currently a 2nd year Undergraduate student at the University of Sheffield studying Music. During my time on the course, I have focused mainly on composition, performance, and musicology. I have achieved my ABRSM Grade 8 on both the Violin and Piano - the violin being my main instrument on which I currently play at a diploma standard. I have been passionate about music from a very young age and I hope to share that with you!
So what can I do for you?
Theory:
As this is the foundation of GSCE and A level exams, it's important that we make sure that you know all the relevant theory needed, not just to improve your written exam but also to provide you with the means to produce more informed performances, cohesive compositions, etc.
- I will tailor the work around you to make sure that you are confident in not only being able to pick out certain techniques, but also to be able to analyse and explain why that technique has been used
- I can help with essay writing technique to make sure that you are writing as efficiently and effectively as possible
Performance:
As previously mentioned, I play both the violin and piano to a high standard - and therefore will be able to give specialised advice for a performance on these instruments.
- If you are preparing for GCSEs or higher then I will be able to direct your performance and give notes to help you elevate it.
Composition:
This was always my favourite part of music (and still is!). I won't be able to compose for you so I will focus on presentation - even people on my course still struggle to present a piece correctly!
- We can work through example scores and dissect what is and isn't acceptable - using your exam board's mark scheme as a very strict guideline
- If you've hit a road-block in your current work then we will do some short composition exercises to get those juices flowing again!
I am more than happy to cover more areas of music but I would consider these 3 subjects to be the core pillars of music - subjects you will more than likely be focusing on during your GCSEs and A levels.
Feel free to drop me a message any time,
I look forward to meeting you!
