My lessons are structured, supportive, and fully tailored to each student’s needs, with a strong focus on building both understanding and confidence. I believe that learning works best when students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, so I aim to create a calm, encouraging environment where progress feels achievable.
A typical lesson begins with a short recap or retrieval activity to identify gaps in understanding. I then explain new concepts step by step, using clear language, diagrams, and worked examples, adapting my explanations depending on how the student learns best. Some students prefer simple, visual methods, while others benefit from more detailed breakdowns, and I adjust my approach accordingly. We then practise exam-style or topic-based questions together, with a focus on exam technique, command words, and how to structure answers effectively. Lessons usually end with a short summary and clear next steps.
I strongly encourage independent learning alongside tutoring. I plan to provide consolidation tasks such as worksheets, exam questions, and revision activities to help students reinforce learning between sessions. For GCSE students, I am developing flashcard decks to support active recall and spaced repetition, helping students revise more effectively in their own time.
I have extensive experience tutoring and mentoring students of different ages and abilities, including supporting students who lack confidence or feel anxious about learning. I understand how frustrating subjects like Maths and Science can feel, and I work patiently with students to break topics down into manageable steps, celebrating small improvements along the way.
My background includes tutoring and mentoring throughout sixth form, supporting GCSE students with numeracy, working as an EAL mentor to help students develop both subject understanding and English language skills, and acting as a subject ambassador in Biology. These experiences have helped me develop strong communication skills, adaptability, and an awareness of how to support learners from different backgrounds.
Overall, my aim is not just to help students improve their grades, but to help them feel more confident, independent, and motivated in their learning. I enjoy working with students rather than simply teaching at them, and I find it genuinely rewarding to see their confidence grow as their understanding improves.
