LEDs are made to operate on direct-current, low voltage (12–24V) electricity. However, the majority of locations provide alternating current, higher voltage electricity (120–277V). Higher voltage alternating current is rectified to low voltage direct current by an LED driver.

Common voltage options for LED are 5v, 12v or 24v in dc electricity and 120-277v for ac. although it depends on the colour of the led, 1.8v for red,2.0 for yellow,2.2v for green,3-3.5v for blue in forward voltage
