Advert description
My knowledge of Spanish comes from both academic study and immersive real-world experience. I graduated with a First-Class degree in French and Hispanic Studies, achieving a distinction in spoken Spanish. During my undergraduate degree, I spent five months living in Spain, where I was able to develop my fluency through daily interaction, both in academic and social settings. This experience allowed me to gain confidence in using the language authentically while also deepening my understanding of Spanish culture.
Since graduating, I have continued to strengthen my Spanish by spending five months travelling in South America. This was a valuable opportunity to experience different varieties of Spanish, as accents, vocabulary, and expressions vary significantly across countries such as Argentina, Chile, and Peru. Exposure to these regional differences has broadened my linguistic awareness and made me highly adaptable in my communication. It has also given me a greater appreciation for the diversity of the Spanish-speaking world, not just linguistically but culturally too.
These experiences mean I can bring a well-rounded and practical perspective to my teaching. I understand both European and Latin American Spanish, which allows me to support students in recognising key differences, depending on their goals and interests. My background also means I can combine academic precision with natural, conversational practice, helping students to feel more confident in using Spanish in real-life contexts.
