Qualified English teacher with a passion for all-things-English!

Advert description
Hello!

My name is Esther. I am currently an English teacher at an OFSTED rated 'Good' secondary school. I have been formally teaching for 3 years, but I have been working in schools (in and out of England) since 2016; either as a tutor, mentor or as a Debate Mate coordinator!

My teaching style is simple: assess skills, practice skills, reassess practiced skills. I place an emphasis on lots of low stakes quizzing to assess students' knowledge, understanding and application. According to Bjork, E. L., & Bjork, R. A. (2011), low stakes quizzes is influential in students' long term memory retention.

Within my classroom, I also place a lot of emphasis on praise. People on a whole thrive off praise, and I ensure that my students realise that the hard work that they put into my lessons are worth it and they should be proud of it.

Lastly, I make it important to ensure I communicate with you - their parent or guardian. The Education Endowment Foundation found that 'Parents play a crucial role in supporting their children’s learning, and levels of parental engagement are consistently associated with better academic outcomes.'. Therefore, I make it part of the package to ensure I keep you updated with your child's progression and communicate with you the things that can be done to either maintain your child's level of progress or improve it.

In a nutshell, I am someone with a passion for English but also a passion for working with young people. I believe that these two passions come together to make an effective teacher.

Ms Esther is a great teacher, in fact one of the best teachers I've ever had, she make every lesson memorable and relatable so you'll always enjoy them, she'll ask you what you need help with and really focus on it, she really did help me pass my GCSE English and would 100% recommend her to anyone who is looking for a great English tutor.
