Chinese and English Speaking Tutor, Who Was a Professor, Teaching in an Enjoyable Way

Advert description
My learning experience and background are diverse, encompassing both science and humanities. For my formal education, I have a BSc in physics and my MPhil and PhD are in philosophy (mainly focused on philosophy of science and language). Besides, I have always been an enthusiastic learner, interested and educating myself in some other subjects such as psychology, politics, investing, quantum technologies, and AI.

I have many years of teaching experience in Hong Kong and Mainland China, in subjects like critical thinking, logic and argumentation, introduction to philosophy, philosophy of science, general linguistics, and ethics. My students were mostly university juniors, but I had also taught many philosophy courses for some teenagers, and a few secondary school physics and mathematics courses.

With my rich knowledge background and teaching experience (and 53 years of life experience as well), I am confident that I can help students in many ways, both in their formal education and life problems. Of course, I do not pretend to be specialists in some professional areas that deal with students’ problems. However, with my knowledge and experience, I can be a teacher for them in some school subjects and be a mature listener for their other life problems (and possibly give them some constructive advice with good common sense).

I would use a student-oriented approach in interacting with students, meaning that I would listen carefully and patiently to the problems they actually have or are interested in, and then try my best to help them cope with them with the knowledge and tools in my disposal. And, in suitable moments, I may also try to open their minds by bringing their attention to some interesting, exciting, fascinating questions or views that they may never think about. In other words, mainly focusing on their problems, and sometimes broadening their horizons and deepening their thoughts.

Taking Prof. Kwok's Critical Thinking course in my second year of undergraduate studies was a turning point for me. It sparked my interest in logic and philosophy, which has stayed with me since. Over the next two years, I had the pleasure of working closely with him as a seminar tutor for his courses. His lectures are not just informative but also meticulously crafted, ensuring that we grasp the complexities of the subjects. He can break down abstract ideas with real-world examples, making learning enjoyable and understandable. What I admire most about Prof. Kwok is his openness to different perspectives. He always encouraged us to voice our opinions, even if they differed from his own. This created a comfortable and free learning environment where everyone felt valued. My time as Prof. Kwok's student and colleague has been incredibly rewarding. I wholeheartedly recommend him for his expertise, dedication, and genuine interest in his students' learning.
