As a fellow student, I understand that English can feel overwhelming, especially when it comes to having to piece together your thoughts about texts you’ve never seen before. In my lessons, I focus on what students need help with and focus on that to give them an advantage, rather than just try to solidify what everyone already knows. My goal is to help students unlock their creative minds and think outside the box. I encourage them to go beyond what’s written on the page, to read between the lines and link what they read in texts to real life situations and their own experiences. This method helps students form original, thoughtful points that stand out, rather than relying on generic answers that examiners skip over.
I make sure every student knows how to structure their answers effectively and has a clear method for tackling questions, so even if they feel stuck in the exam, they’ll know how to begin. Confidence is key, and I work on helping students feel secure in their attempts to vocalise how they feel with what they struggle with and in their competitive writing in exams.
Ultimately, my aim is to help students see English not just as a subject, but as a skill they can master through creative thinking and structured practice. With the right mindset and guidance, even the most challenging texts become approachable. My sessions are supportive, interactive, and tailored to each student’s goals -
whether that’s building a foundation or pushing towards top grades.
