Advert description
I have a degree in English Literature from the University of Exeter, and have been teaching English for 5 years. I have worked at a comprehensive school and at a sixth-form college, and I have experience with students of all abilities: from those looking to earn a 4 at GCSE, to a GCSE top set with students aiming for 8s and 9s, to A Level students targeting B, A and A*.
I have very strong subject knowledge, and work full time as a tutor, typically studying in the mornings and teaching in the afternoons/evenings. As such, I can guarantee at least an hour of preparation time for every hour lesson, and you know that you will receive the kind of individual and focused feedback that teachers simply do not have time to give to their whole class.
I specialise in Shakespeare, poetry and creative writing, but also excel in teaching novels and other plays. I am very flexible with regards to the texts studied; not only am I very familiar with the most popular GCSE and A Level options, but I have also studied more niche texts for specific students in the past. I can also give detailed feedback on coursework - a girl I worked with last year improved her coursework from a C to an A with my help.
As a teacher, I am warm, friendly and encouraging. I tailor my lessons to individual students, introducing as many challenging concepts as possible while keeping the content approachable for your current working level. We work a lot on writing collaboratively, be that writing essays from scratch, editing your old essays (often post-assessment), or critiquing example pieces. We slowly but steadily build your confidence as a creative, adaptive writer of clear and thoughtful literary analysis.
